Sadly for mum, diagnosis of vascular dementia in 2019
As is the disease trajectory, the last 6 months noticing more struggles for mum, certain stress triggers (doing her own tablets), things were becoming unsafe. As a family, we knew we needed extra support so mum could continue living at home as independently as possible, and safely. We knew mums wishes would be to stay in her own home, community, and around the family who love her. Deciding on the best care for mum was a difficult family decision and we anticipated a stressful process, essentially ‘handing mum over to strangers’. However S&S Home Care Ltd certainly took the fear and anticipated stress away. From Tim who manages the office calls, our initial call, and meeting Sandra, the Manager, who also is part of the care team (that told us something, the manger was very ‘hands on’) through to Michelle as one of mums main carers (along with Sandra), we would have no hesitation in recommending this Home Care Team.
The team have been brilliant at ‘listening’ to us so they ‘know’ mum as an individual and then were able to mimic and follow mums existing routines which was crucial, so there was no stress for mum with ‘different routines’, they always work to mums agenda. They have been able to gently settle in as part of mums daily routine, patiently getting to know mum and build what is now an obvious rapport with mum. We can tell mum feels reassured, safe, respected and cared for.
The team are professional, reliable and dedicated. They are full of kindness and consideration, you can tell they ‘enjoy’ and are proud of the job they do. They are approachable, responsive, and accommodate mums changing care needs. Already they intuitively contribute to extra nutrition for mum alongside what the family do daily.
With mums family, the team continue to ensure independence for mum in her own home, we could not do it without them.
