Sadly for mum, diagnosis of Vascular Dementia in 2019, this brought huge challenges and decisions that so many individuals and families are faced with.
As per the disease trajectory, as the months moved on, certain stress triggers, eg. doing her own tablets was becoming more of a challenge and unsafe for mum.
As a family, each with individual work commitments and all living different distances from mum, we knew we needed support so mum could continue to live in her own home as independently as possible and crucially, safely. We knew mums wishes, stay in her own home, community and around family who love her.
Deciding on the best care for mum was a difficult ‘family’ decision and we anticipated a stressful process, essentially ‘handing mum over to strangers’.
However, S&S Home Care Ltd certainly took the fear and anticipated stress away.
We met with the manager of the team, who is also part of the care team, that in itself spoke ‘volumes’ , the manger is very ‘hands on’ … since then, we have never looked back, and I can not think of the word to describe the ‘peace of mind’ the whole team afford, perhaps the word is ‘priceless’.

The team have been brilliant at ‘listening’ to us so they ‘know’ mum as an individual and then able to maintain and follow mums existing routines which is crucial, so no stress for mum, no different routine's for mum, the team ‘always’ work so it is mums agenda.
The team have over the year, gently settled in as part of mums routine, patiently getting to know mum and build what is now an obvious rapport of mutual respect and trust. It is so obvious, mum feels reassured, safe, respected and cared for.
The team are professional, reliable and dedicated. They are full of kindness and consideration, it is obvious they ‘enjoy’ and are proud of the care they provide, the job they do. They are approachable, responsive and continue to accommodate mums changing care needs.
The team intuitively adapt to enhance mums quality of life in her home.
They continue to ensure independence for mum in her home, we could not do this without them. Greatest pleasure is mum giggling with her team, the relationships get stronger.
